A New Year for Elysium!

Written by
A New Year for Elysium!

It's crazy to think that it's already been a whole year since this group was formed. And look at what it has become XD! Thanks to all of your for being fans of our releases. Wouldn't be here without you guys!

Now, I'm sure you've all been dying to hear some updates and our next release line-up, and we sure have a lot to talk about! So, let's get to it! This is an incredibly long update, so if you have any questions, they're probably answered below, so check the text!

Group Updates

Before we start talking about projects, I want to mention a couple things that will be changing with the group. First things is our release times with projects. If you've been following us for long, you'll notice that the amount of releases we've pushed out have been decreasing over the year. There are a couple things to contribute to that. The main one is that laziness really gets to you at times you wish it didn't ^.^! The second reason is that we've been pushing our quality standards higher and higher with each release, but unfortunately, that costs time.

To combat this, I'm going to start implementing more of a strict quarterly grouping of releases. The year will be split into four quarters and the projects we announce (unless otherwise specified) will be released within that quarter. This way we don't have projects that get put on the backburner for a whole year! *cough* Haruhi *cough* But, of course, we still do this out of our free time, so don't expect us to hit hard deadlines like a company would.

Another thing you might notice is that we're dropping the Hi10P from our filenames. There's really no point anymore. Basically everyone is already switching to Hi10P, so it should be expected of any release now.

New Staff!

With the new year, we will be bring two new staff members on-board, and they are....

Tyberg29
Editing, Quality Control
Greetings! I handle editing and general QC work. In noticing errors and ensuring the correctness of tiny details, it's my hope that you won't have to.

rabbick (Jabbick)
Editing, Typesetting, Timing
Just another member of the group. I also do a few editing, typesetting jobs etc.

Make sure you guys welcome them around the site! They're going to be the reason we can even push the amount of release we've listed below!

Project Announcements

And... what you've all been waiting for! Here is our project lineup for this next quarter. Thank you all for the input we received through the voting system a couple months back, we looked over all of the data and kept in mind all of your opinions on this. We'll definitely be doing the voting thing again for the next quarter, so stay tuned :)

Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge
Encoding - Revenant | Scripts - ITHORA
We did the first season, so here we are with the next. Also one of our most highly requested shows in the past.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu Ni!
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Jabbick
Again, we're doing this cause we did this first season. Plus, this show is just freaking halarious!

Bakemonogatari
Encoding - killazys | Scripts - Tyberg29, Ametatsu
Yes, you read right. We're picking this up. Why? Because there still is no perfect release for this show, so we're going to create it. Unfortunately, because this is SHAFT, and basically TS hell, this will not be bound by our new release season schedules. This project will be done when it's done.

Break Blade (Broken Blade)
Encoding - ITHORA | Scripts - ITHORA
Just a random project ITHORA wanted to do. Looks good with lack of a good BD release.

Dantalian no Shoka
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Ametatsu
This one is the fruit of your voting! Looks interesting with a high request rate, so I'll be picking it up. Wanted to watch it myself anyways.

Fate/Zero
Encoding - killazys | Scripts - killazys, Ametatsu
Does this one need explaining? One of the best shows eva! Will release half-batch of episodes 1-12 in winter season, then the rest whenever the BDs come out.

Guilty Crown
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Ametatsu
Just love this show. Visual are great, and looks to be a fun project. Same deal with Fate/Zero, half-batch at end of the winter season.

K-ON!
Encoding - killazys | Scripts - killazys, Ametatsu
We're doing this to keep consistency with our second season release. This show won't be placed on high priority and will not be following the season dealines because there's already decent releases... just not good enough.

Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai I
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scritps - Vox, Tyberg29, Ametatsu
Another show suggested by you guys. Not much to say about this one. Looking forward to working on it :)

Mawaru Penguindrum
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Ametatsu
Very popular request, so here it is! There's currently no BD release of this at all (as far as I can find), so this one will be bit of a higher priority.

Shakugan no Shana II
Encoding - killazys | Scripts - killazys, Ametatsu
Well... so after checking out the BD Raws, we're dropping this. The TV rip looks like 3x better. The BD has an insane ammount of detail loss from sharpening.

Steins:Gate
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Ametatsu
Why this show is this incredibly popular and highly requested? I will never understand, but we're going to do it anyways, so enjoy! XD

Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Tyberg29, Ametatsu
But you guys already did this show o.O! Yes, and it sucked, so we're doing it again. I think the remake of this show is probably the most highly requested project we've seen so far... so we're finally setting the plans into stone.

To Aru Majutsu no Index
Encoding - killazys | Scripts - killazys, Ametatsu
Again, we're doing this show for consistency with our Index II release. Low priority since there's already decent releases.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0
Encoding - Share RAWs | Scripts - Ametatsu
Finally! I have found some RAWs that don't have video glitches, and look pretty decent. These won't be our own encodes (haven't done one of these in a while, huh?), but I will still be making the scripts look nice and pretty.

Usagi Drop
Encoding - Ametatsu | Scripts - Ametatsu
This show was another extremely highly requested show, so here it is! This one looks really good, so it should be fun :)

Yup... that's a huge list. However, if you read them all, you'll know that not all of them are going to be strictly released in this winter season. Regardless, looks like I'll be having less of a life this Winter. The respective project pages will start popping up within the next month, so if you have any questions or comments related to a specific show, you might get a better response in its official project page. Also, I have chosen not to include what group's subs we'll be using for each show. We still haven't finalized the information for every show yet, so you'll find out once its project page goes up.

Unfortunately, we can't do everything or satisfy everyone's requests. So, to fulfill your curiosity, here is a list of the more popular requests that we chose to decline and the reasoning:

Kimi ni Todoke - One of our friend groups will be picking this up. I'm not allowed to name the group just yet, but you can expect some awesome releases from them!

Kara no Kyoukai - Basically, no one has interest in this right now. Sorry :( Perhaps in the future.

Toradora! - Exact same situation as Kimi ni Todoke

Ouran High School Host Club - Have you guys looked at the BD before suggesting this? One look and you'll understand.

Working!! - Again, not a huge ammount of interest. Maybe in the future though...

Mouryou no Hako - No one has finished subbing this, and we don't do TL... so for now, not possible.

Nichijou - Not enough interest atm. I might do this next season though. We'll see...

Other Announcements

In the last couple releases (specifically Index II, Madoka, and Shana I), we've been getting reports about the fonts not displaying correct when being played. This is due to a change in mkvtoolnix (the library we use to mux together the mkv files) and how it assigns the MIME file type for the attached font files. Because of this change, Haali Media Splitter will sometimes not recognize the files as fonts and will not extract them as so. There are two workaround for this issue. One is the use LAV Splitter rather than Haali. This is recommended as the LAV Splitters are better than Haali anyways. Second is to install the required fonts onto your system. This workaround is the easiest since you will have the fonts files available to load whether the mkv splitter extracts them or not. I have attached all the fonts needed for the release to display properly on the project pages of the affected releases. This issue should not longer be apparent in future releases since we will be making sure the MIME types are attached correctly.

As always, thank you all for being great fans XD. Let's hope we'll have another wonderful and successful year!

ok i just pop in from time to time but i did vote, and my main votes were for Toradora! I really, REALLY wanted to see this done from you guys bc its my completely favorite anime all time, I just think its the perfect anime with perfect char dev and plot and well everything. But I do see your taking on a huge list, but please for the my sake of loving this show, can you email where this mystical group can be located so that I can await the High Defnition rekease of this? Just email me, I love the show so much I vow to you that I will obviously keep it to myself.

Epic list is epic, can't wait.

# JbstormburstADV | 2012-01-10 08:20
...Damn, that is a long list, and while I haven't watched any of it, save Haruhi, it's looking pretty good. Although speaking of "hugely huge," is there a chance we could see an encode for season 2 of Hayate no Gokuto? Chihiro's release is ridiculous of a space waster, and I bet better can be done with the script. And along those lines, maybe a better release of Cardcaptor Sakura, too, if it is feasible?

That's a real big list of projects, damn. ANE's bakemonogatari encode was impressive, good to see people keep on improving and improving on the script. Can't be a bad thing.
Shana II isn't worth a damn encode. There's a group Sapphire IIRC working on them either way, and it looks just as shitty as I.
Usagi has quite a bit of BD groups already, would be interesting to see your take on modified subs, though.
Great to see Kami Nomi in the list. Looking forward to that.

Either way, good luck guys.

No Clannad ~After Story~ and Madoka 720p?

Ahh... Didn't see that. Should have read the comments first. =.='

That's a lot of anime. All the ones I voted for are on there too, except Nichijou.

I hope you you'll actually be able to release everything because it seems like it will take a lot of work.

# Uiharu | 2012-01-10 05:57
Remember that the projects above will be released in more than 1 season

I'm very disappointed in you guys for not doing Kara no Kyoukai, but at the other hand I'm positively surprised that you will do Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 and Break Blade. Of course, Fate/Zero is another good choice, but plenty of other groups will do it too. I'm not very interested in other shows you announced, but nevertheless, good luck with them! :)

One more show I wish to see from some group is Dennou Coil, as Coalgirls' encode is hugely huge.

And I would like to ask something: in your most recent releases (e.g. Shakugan no Shana), the audio is AAC 300 kbps. I would ask you, is it AAC-LC or HE-AAC? What Q are you using? Q=0.6 or 0.8?

Thanks!
0
# Ametatsu | 2012-01-09 13:54
AAC is encoded in AAC-LC always. For Shana, Q was 0.8. Sometimes we'll use 0.7.
0
# papsi | 2012-01-09 15:27
And is there any specific reason that you use AAC-LC? Because as I noticed, HE-AAC saves even more kbps with the same Q (for 5.1, approx. 20-30%).
0
# Ametatsu | 2012-01-09 19:19
AAC-LC has higher audio quality. HE-AAC is designed to be high compression for things like internet streaming.
0
# papsi | 2012-01-10 02:20
I thought that HE-AAC has only greater compressibility but the quality should be the same using the same Q.
0
# spaark | 2012-01-10 09:31
HE-AAC doesn't have greater compressibility or quality at such high bitrates. It's only at around 64kbps and lower does it shine (or rather, AAC-LC turns to shit).
0
# papsi | 2012-01-10 11:37
I'm pretty sure that I tested it once with an 5.1 file on Q=0.8 with both AAC-LC and HE-AAC, and the resulting AAC-LC audio was above 600 kbps, but the HE-AAC audio was only 450 kbps.

Maybe I remember it wrong, should test it again I guess.
0
# spaark | 2012-01-10 12:16
Even if the bitrate is lower, I'm willing to bet that the perceived quality is lower as well (theoretically, anyway, since comparing quality with those bitrates is difficult), even though Q=0.8 for both. The difference between AAC-LC and HE-AAC is that the latter goes further to remove psychoacoustic redundancies. The (note: lossy) techniques it uses are optimized for very low bitrates. If you want a bitrate of 450kbps for that file, it's probably better to just lower the Q value appropriately.

Wow, thanks for the info! :)

# raxar | 2012-01-09 06:39
hope 720p of Clannad After Story and Madoka would appear sometime in this 2012 too :D
By the way, Haruhi will get 720p release I guess? from what I see at haruhi project page.

I greatly appreciate your last year releases and can't wait for the new ones. Especially for Arakawa :)
Btw, Mouryou no Hako was completely translated by different fansub groups (ep. 1-9 by Aero subs, ep. 10-13 by Aoi-Anime, special by Dekiagari). You can find batch for this series on bakabt: bakabt.me/150376-mouryou-no-hako-720p-aero-aoi-anime.html
Happy new fansubbing year for all of you!

LAV Splitter can't handle segment linking and won't be able to for a long, long time.
I see no reason why someone should change splitters and give up on ordered chapters just to cater to you guys.
0
# behh | 2012-01-10 03:54
It is a recommendation to help those who are experiencing problems. No one is forcing you to change splitters.

Makes me happy to see the second season of Baka to Test up there, nobody has done BDs for that yet that I've been able to find, or would watch. Looking forward to the releases.

You've got some serious competition for Bakemonogatari, seeing as ANE are just about to release a V2
0
# Jackstick | 2012-01-09 06:02
ANE released their 10bit version of Bakemonogatari on October last year. Are they already working on another one?
0
# Peix | 2012-01-09 13:24
No new encode. Just fixing a lot of script/typesett ing/minor nitpick issues.

That said, ANE's encode of bakemonogatari is pretty damn impressive. Really don't think they can be beat, but looking forward to see what Elysium comes up with.

# Ametatsu | 2012-01-09 13:47
ANE's release is by far the best so far. Encodes are great as well. However, we're going to be actually alot of editing to the gg scripts. It's mainly the scripts that I'm think can be done better.
