DDL Madness Update

DDL Madness Update

UPDATE - We got 2 DDL Nodes. Click on the link on the menu bar.

So, it looks like the internet has gone crazy ever since the Megaupload takedown and now there's essentially no DDL sites worth using or investing into. When we first started offerring DDL links, it was more for the money through FileServe, to be honest. However, after seeing the number of downloads that DDL brought in for us, it was clear that DDLs were something everyone loved and wanted. But, now with every file sharing service shutting down or limiting its functionality, it's quite hard to provide these downloads. So, what's our solution? Host our own DDL links until this madness dies down.

Basically, the internet has come down to only having RapidShare as a decent DDL service. Now, I know what you all think when you hear RapidShare. However, I must admit that the company has radically changed since the old days that brought them the reputation they have now. Great speeds and no wait times. But of course, RS is known to actively fight against pirating and just isn't exactly ideal in other areas for these kind of files, etc, etc. So, we will not use RapidShare.

I realize that there are many smaller sites that haven't changed their services or even new ones popping up, but unfortunately none of them fit our criteria. We need a host that has a good reputation that we know will not disappear on us or get shutdown. We need good speeds not only for our uploads, but for users as well. We need the ability to share files even up to 2-3GB without spliting. So far, only RS has met all the criteria.

So, our chosen option is to host our own dedicated server(s) for DDL downloads until a realy file host pops up again. However, the problem with this can be summed down to one issue... money. The more money we have for server resources the better downloads we can provide. I have no intention to limit downloads for any one user with this method. We are not going to turn into a filesharing company, which means everyone, everywhere will get the exact same download speeds and access rights. With that said, because of our limited resources we aren't going to be able to provide speeds as fast as a real file hosting service like RS. In fact, in order to make it fair and not have our servers overload, I will probably limit the download speed to say...800KB/s or something.

Because money is our main barrier for this method, if you guys support it, please please do donate for server costs with the donation link below or on the right sidebar. I really really really really hate begging for money, but I believe that this, for now, is the best plan we can offer in order to continue providing DDL links. However, I cannot not give donation users any higher speeds than non-donation users. If you donate, you're simply helping out our entire community here by allowing us to provide better services for everyone. If we can get $50 a month.. that's already enough to cover one server for DDL.

I will be lauching a trial for this for up to 2 months. Within a couple weeks you should start to see DDL link transfer over to our own server. If we can get donations to sustain server costs and have enough people use it to justify the service at all, then we'll keep it. If we don't get a good enough reponse... I guess we'll just say to say bye bye to DDL for now. This also is a chance for a new staff position opening for a DDL Server Manager. If you think that you help us out, give me a shout on IRC or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . You'll need a very good grasp of Linux, PHP, and other web tools. And even better, if anyone has server space or entire servers that they would love to donate for our use... please please give me a shout too!

Now... you're not the only one who's crying about DDL sites being down. We are too! Alot of our BDMVs were downloaded from these site because of the amazing speeds we could get from them, but now that fast resource is gone. Not to mention that there were some that we could only find on DDL sites. Unfortunately, this will hinder some productivity. Have you ever tried downloading from perfect dark or share? It's definately not what anyone would call fast enough, at least if you're doing it from the US. So, it really saddens me to say that we probably will have to throw away those schedules and deadlines I talked about in the last update out the window.

Anyways, I think I've ranted enough for today... please let us know what you think about this or if you have any better ideas.

TL;DR - We going to host our own DDL link and we need moneyz, so please donate!

UPDATE - Looks like FileServe is back up. However, we're still not going to go back. They are going through a massive purge of any files that even look remotely in breach of a copyright. So, we're not going to take chances with FileServe anymore. Also, on top of that, we've already begun to hate FileServe for various other reasons, so this a good chance for us to fully ditch them.

UPDATE - Looks like we got quite a response. Thanks for all the donations. The DDL links should be coming up shortly!

Came here hoping for decent DDLs for a show which was taking forever to download through torrenting (50kb/s or less). I was very surprised when I clicked a DDL link for that show and noticed the download starting right away with over 1mb/s.

Thanks for this, you guys saved me over a week of waiting for my show to finish downloading. Donation will come in later this month or beginning of next :)

let me express my gratitude for the DDL server that you provide, its very simple and easy to use than any other file hosting. some people maybe have problem with its limited bandwidth but for me its more than enough, beside leecher just need to keep silence and take what they need without the right to complain. believe it or not i still download and watch 1080p anime with my pathetic 384kbps internet connection
# priszero | 2012-01-29 06:13
don't bother provide DDL
most of leecher will just strike the torrent while it's hot
# Scouten | 2012-01-29 09:26
but that's the point of having a server it guarantees (mostly) the availability of the file for a decent amount of time instead of the roller coaster of speed that is torrents.

I wonder why not just rar the files and name them "Bob's Birthday party" and random stuff like that, & host them on rapidshare or any fast alternative?
# behh | 2012-01-27 15:53
It would be both confusing and problematic.
# Scouten | 2012-01-27 07:09
I respect you guys even more for ditching fileserve what a piece of shit DDL site that is/was terrible speeds, terrible captcha bs and one of the worst countdown timers ever.

Donated $50 to give back to the community. Keep doing the good you do. Thanks again.
# Scouten | 2012-01-25 22:49
since this group has grown on me il throw 10$ your guys way. not many Sub/Encode groups around these days that are worth my attention.
# coolpianoman | 2012-01-25 09:40
Even with the donations request, just attempting such an endeavor is much more selfless than any response I expected from any group. Torrenting is kind of, well, impossible when some people have only dial-up or community internet access, so for those of out there, thank you so much.

Just a BTW, though, they do have a Premium account option; you'll just need to create an account first and then click on one of the page links at the botttom (TOS, API, etc.).
# JbstormburstADV | 2012-01-25 08:26
...If anything, I wonder if you checked into BayFiles. Did you?
# Verix | 2012-01-25 01:44
Right, ISO's & BDMV's will be harder to reel in now, with most file services changing policies :(
Sad days...
# random | 2012-01-25 01:10
Just so you know, you mistyped DDL in the title.
# Ametatsu | 2012-01-25 01:11
